Yay for Fat Tuesday!

Mmmm... King cake.

Not so long ago, yesterday and today were spent wandering up and down St. Charles, popping into various houses to share feasts with friends and acquaintances, scooting back out onto the main parade route to grab a throw or two and, let's be honest, an adult beverage or two or three.

I think that is something that the rest of America fails to realize about Mardi Gras.

It's not all boobs and flashing and bead-gathering. It's about coming together as a community in a great party before going into a period of fasting together. To me, it was always the last big shebang at the end of the holidays and the next few weeks that come after feel more grey, more somber, and appropriately so.

It's challenging to describe all the noise, the motion, the colors and light that come with the Mardi Gras season. It's just one of those things that you have to experience for yourself to fully appreciate.

Happy
Mardi Gras, y'all!
